She might have been part of the TOWIE fabric, but Lucy Mecklenburgh has slammed the mantra coined by the show’s stars ‘no carbs before Marbs’.
The 28-year-old, who now considers herself a fitness guru and business entrepreneur, left the show to concentrate on her companies – having opened clothes stores across Essex as well as building a business empire.
Praising complex carbs such as brown rice, quinoa and potatoes – which are considered sinful when you’re a TOWIE star trying to get bikini ready before heading to Marbella – Lucy insisted it was “unrealistic” to follow fad diets.

“I think it was TOWIE that put people off with the slogan, ‘No carbs before Marbs.’ People sat, ‘Oh, carbs are bad for me”. But that’s complex rubbish. Complex carbs, like those found in potatoes, are very important for your diet.”
She continued: “A lot of young people have stopped eating carbs and I’m completely against that.”
